The Storm You Carry Isn’t Who You Are

We all carry storms. Every one of us.
Some are quiet, tucked beneath layers of busyness and the roles we’ve outgrown.
Others swirl just beneath the skin, sharp, restless, though undeniable.
You know what I mean. It shows up in your heart space… or your gut.
A tightness.
A drop.
A clench.
Sometimes it builds like a slow wave, and other times it strikes like lightning out of nowhere. And isn’t it curious how the pain we buried the deepest can still rise in an instant? No matter how cleverly we tuck it away, those storms always find a way to resurface, often at the most devastating, awkward, or inappropriate times.
Why?
What I’ve learned on my healing path is this: Turning our backs on past pain, traumas, mistakes, or unprocessed emotions is just a band-aid over a life-altering wound. It might work for a while, but not forever. The weight of it lingers. It hangs in your heart. It churns in your belly.
And what I know about stuck energy is that it eventually pushes back.
Of course, it does because e-motions are energy in motion.
They’re not the enemy.
They’re messengers.
Temporary teachers.
They're designed to move through us while we experience life, not to be buried, hidden, ignored, or held like prisoners.
But when you’ve gone through something and never fully faced it, your energy still remembers it. You're still actively carrying it.
So, here’s your wake-up call: The pain you’re running from is the very thing you’re holding onto. And it’s holding you back.
Emotions don’t rise to torment you—they rise because your body, your soul, is wise. It’s asking for freedom. And holding it all in? That’s not weakness. That’s survival. That’s your nervous system trying to protect you. But over time, that protection can become a prison.
Healing doesn’t mean bypassing the storm. It means turning toward it. Meeting it face to face.
Letting it rise.
Letting it move.
Letting it go.
Yeah, it might get weird. You may ugly cry. You may scream. You may fall to your knees in release.
Let it happen.
Because what stays hidden does more harm than what’s finally set free.
And then? Repeat.
Every time a song plays, a name’s mentioned, a memory surfaces, and a new, forgotten ache rises, take a moment to get curious.
Breathe.
Be brave.
Free yourself from the weight of it all.
This is what it means to be active in your healing journey.
To stop turning your back on yourself.
To turn inward.
To meet yourself with love, patience, understanding, and a whole lot of grace.
